Lesley first stumbled upon photography while working as a journalist at the Commercial Appeal when her editor asked her to grab a photo while on assignment and handed her a point-and-shoot camera. That photograph ended up above the fold, and the head of the photo department called her to compliment the work. She went on to attend MCA to earn a second bachelor’s, studying photography and continued to photograph her stories for the paper. Eventually, she decided to retire her camera as digital photography continued to advance at an impossible speed. While on an artist retreat in New Orleans, she discovered the art of Instagram walking her dog through the city’s magical streets, and suddenly everything became a photograph. She became a collector of the exquisite and the decay and that underneath and behind. If she were to sum up her work in a word, entelechy, would serve nicely. Lesley has shown her work using reclaimed frames (if you have any you are looking to unload….) at Crosstown Arts, the Brooks Museum, and other venues in the city.
