Matthew Lee is a landscape painter who enjoys working directly from life, whether
he is creating a “plein air” landscape in the hills of Provence, or in Memphis, TN
where he currently lives.

His paintings are often about creating an immediate connection with nature, capturing the light, forms, and feeling of a place. Many people say they feel a sense of peace from his work, or they feel like they could be standing right there in the painting!

Lee was born in Paris, France to missionary parents originally from Mississippi. He spent his childhood mostly in France and Germany, then returned to Mississippi for
university, and to reconnect with his Mississippi family. The rich culture and artistic heritage of France were deeply imprinted on his life.

In addition to being a painter, he is a licensed architect.
